The Importance of Blind Spots in Setting Goals You Can Actually Achieve

Advertisements

Finding Your Holy Grail helps people navigate the post-pandemic reality we now find ourselves in.

As we head into the beginning of 2021, the show takes a deep dive into key themes on living fearlessly in the post-pandemic world. Throughout January, the spotlight’s on our ability to set and achieve goals in uncertain times; and we explore the roles of fear, resilience, beliefs, and blind-spots in this process.

In this episode, Dr. Mandy Simon is joined by Dr. Gordon MacMillan, the show’s co-creator, in exploring The Importance of Blind Spots in Setting Goals You Can Actually Achieve.

Blind spots arise when our perception of reality differs from what is the truth. Like accidents waiting to happen, blind-spots can lead us to experience events that are unexpected and often painful. We all have blind-spots and they create lots of problems.

They can lead us to develop problematic aspects of our personality that are obvious to everyone but ourselves. These aspects can prevent us from being true and authentic expressions of ourselves. And this ‘distortion’ prevents us from being as effective as we could be. This is why it’s important to understand blind spots if you want to achieve your goals in life. Otherwise, you’ll continue to limit your ability to influence others and succeed at the level you desire.

Join in and listen to how Dr. Mandy Simon and Dr. Gordon MacMillan are providing valuable information to help you through this Pandemic. Click here to listen…    This is information is priceless

Our ability to recognize our own blind spots and how they relate to the context of the environments we are currently a part of requires great personal awareness and rigor. In such unprecedented times, we encourage you to understand you have all the answers inside of you, give yourself the grace and opportunity to recognize your own knowing.

The Show’s Call to Action is for listeners to:

  1. Write five words that describe you.
  2. Ask nine people to do the same (3 family members, 3 co-workers, and 3 friends).
  3. Compare the answers with your own assessment (Note the similarities and differences).
  4. Write down 3 things in each category: personal, professional, financial that control you.
  5. Write down what is the biggest blind spot that is the elephant in your life. You know it is in the room, but you prefer to not confront it or talk about it because it feels unsafe.

The importance of our Belief Systems – now more than ever

Finding Your Holy Grail helps people navigate the post-pandemic reality we now find ourselves in.

As we head into the beginning of 2021, the show takes a deep dive into key themes on living fearlessly in the post-pandemic world. Throughout January, the spotlight’s on our ability to set and achieve goals in uncertain times; and we explore the roles of fear, resilience, beliefs, and blind-spots in this process.

In this episode, Dr. Mandy Simon is joined by Dr. Gordon MacMillan, the show’s co-creator, in exploring The Importance of Belief Systems in Setting Goals You Can Actually Achieve.

To listen to this discussion with Dr. Mandy Simon and Dr. Gordon MacMillan on how we can work through this pandemic with our feelings and emotions in this crazy world we are now in:   Click here to listen…

Belief systems exert a powerful influence over how we respond to any given situation or circumstance. They are passed on to us at very young ages and help us to form the identities of who we perceive we are, and how we develop into the individuals we seek to become.

Belief systems are greatly influenced by culture, religion, language, and the choices we make about how we fit into society. They define the extent of the opportunities and options that we think are available to us as we plan ahead. This is why it’s important to understand belief systems when it comes to setting goals we can actually achieve.

The Show’s Call to Action is for listeners to:

  1. Consider how your belief systems influence your perception of the world. Make sure, you list at least 5 and identify if they are changeable or static for you.
  1. List 5 deeply-held beliefs, or core values, which have been nurtured in you from childhood. Then decide if you have them because it was conditioning or if you are choosing to hold on to them.
  1. Lastly, write down 5 words that you could incorporate in your everyday language to adopt a more positive, and progressive outlook on the world. Feel free to use the example we gave here as a substituting timeline for a deadline. Another example could be using language to say I feel sad instead of saying I am sad. When we say I am sad, it doesn’t give our subconscious mind the freedom to understand that we are not sad. Think about that nuance.

The Power of Resilience

Finding Your Holy Grail helps people navigate the post-pandemic reality we now find ourselves in.

As we head into the beginning of 2021, the show continues to take a look at key themes for living fearlessly in the post-pandemic world. Throughout January, the spotlight is on our ability to set and goals we can ACTUALLY achieve. To help listeners in uncertain times; and we explore the roles of fear, resilience, beliefs, and blind-spots in this process.

In this episode, Dr. Mandy Simon explores Part 2: The Importance of Resilience in Setting Goals You Can Actually Achieve. She is joined by Dr. Gordon MacMillan, the show’s co-creator, to discuss moving forward in our lives according to an agenda which is set by ourselves, alone.

Some people experience profound stress when the events of tomorrow cannot be predicted with certainty. But others are more resilient and can manage uncertainty better. The hosts recognize that resilience is a skill set that we can all develop. Over time, we can become more aware of how we’re affected by certain situations – and can learn techniques to become more resilient.

To Listen to this interview with Dr. Mandy Simon & Dr. Gordon MacMillan: Click here to listen…

We remind listeners to have already written goals for January 1st. Then follow along with us each week as we look closely at the topics of fear, resilience, belief systems, and blind-spots. And definitely fill in your workbooks each week. At the end of the month, we will take what you learned and you can where needed modify the goals you wrote down on January 1st This will allow listeners to know the difference between the goals they can ACTUALLY achieve, and NOT just the goals they wrote down!

The Show’s Call to Action is for listeners to:

  1. List your most resilient characteristics and practices. How are you able to bounce back from adverse circumstances in life?
  2. List 5 ways that you could become more resilient.
  3. Consider how you could incorporate more resilient practices in your everyday life.

The Role of Fear in Goal Setting

Advertisements

Finding Your Holy Grail helps people navigate the post-pandemic reality we now find ourselves in.

The show’s host, Dr. Mandy Simon supports the audience to build skills for resilience to live fearless in an uncertain world. As we head into the beginning of 2021, the show takes a deep dive into key themes that affect our ability to set and achieve our goals in life.

In this episode, Dr. Mandy Simon explores The Role of Fear in Goal Setting. She is joined by Dr. Gordon MacMillan, the show’s co-creator. It’s an important topic – defining priorities, articulating milestones, and realizing goals actually allows us to move forward in our lives according to an agenda which we set.

Join us throughout January as we unpack the forces that determine if you set goals that you can actually achieve. Successful goal setting is all about understanding our own individual perception of fears, level of resilience, belief systems, and our blind-spots.

These aspects drive the way we make decisions in life and determine the extent to which we can realize our goals and aspirations – whatever they might be. In this episode, we unpack fear to expose unseen forces that motivate our behaviors.

Please join in and listen to this discussion on The Role of Fear with Dr. Mandy Simon and Dr. Gordon MacMillian:  Click here to listen…

On January 1st be sure to set and write down your goals for the year. Then follow along with us each week as we look closely at the topics of fear, resilience, belief systems, and blind-spots. And definitely fill in your workbooks each week. At the end of the month, we will take what you learned each week you can where needed modify the goals you wrote down on January 1st This is so they reflect the goals you can ACTUALLY achieve and NOT just the goals you wrote down!

The Show’s Call to Action for this week is for listeners to:

  1. Write down all the repeating patterns in their lives. For example, are you constantly late for meetings, do you still have tons of debt you can’t seem to get rid of, do your romantic relationships always end in the same way? Whatever it is for you.
  2. What do these repeating patterns cost you in your life? Personally, and professionally.
  3. Write down at least 3 fears you have that you are aware of. Write down at least 3 fears you were never aware of having, but can realize now from doing these exercises and listening to this show. For example, you never realized that giving up eating chocolate was subconsciously linked to the love and safety of eating your mother’s chocolate cake as a child. And now you eat lots of chocolate because this subconsciously makes you feel safe and loved.
