Testing Your Boundaries

Advertisements

Guest, Kelly Sayre, Founder, and Owner of the Diamond Arrow Group will join Host Shannon Zeeman of Active Shooter.

You have set your boundaries and decided how you are going to enforce them. Great! How will you know when someone is testing them? Does that person even realize they are crossing the line? Shannon and Kelly talk about the different tactics used to test boundaries and what the intent may be. People with low social skills may not even recognize they are in your space or making you uncomfortable with their behavior. Everyone’s personal space needs are different, even during a pandemic! It is not rude to have and enforce boundaries, so no apologies necessary.

Our guest this week, Kelly Sayre, Founder, and Owner of the Diamond Arrow Group, believes all women can learn how to be more situationally aware to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. She took self-defense classes, firearm safety courses and browsed all the tools marketed to women to carry for their protection- but what she couldn’t find was someone talking to women about how to spot a potentially dangerous situation BEFORE it happened. That is when her company, The Diamond Arrow Group, was born. An arrow through a diamond symbolizes “courage moving forward” and her mission is to help women build their confidence so they can move forward and live life on their own terms. Kelly is a life-long learner and has been researching and studying resources on situational awareness for years. She is an endorsed 500 rising instructor. She took all that knowledge and created training, keynote presentations, and one-on-one coaching programs, with the everyday woman in mind. She draws on her vast research and knowledge to help women understand how to use life skills they already have, for their personal safety.

The Need For Boundaries

Finding Your Holy Grail helps people navigate the post-pandemic reality we now find ourselves in.

Over the last 10 weeks, the show’s host, Dr. Mandy Simon has interviewed experts, supporting the audience to build skills for resilience to live fearless in an uncertain world. As we head into the beginning of 2021, the show takes a deep dive into key themes that have emerged as priorities to the audience.

In this episode, Dr. Mandy Simon explores The Need for Boundaries. She is joined by Dr. Gordon MacMillan, the show’s co-creator. It’s an important topic – creating and enforcing our boundaries with others actually permits us to develop deeper relationships in our lives.

We all have the need to be heard and to be treated with respect. And in turn, this is how we should be treating others. To do this, we must put ourselves first. And therein lays the challenge. Above all, we must find our voices and stand our ground. This is a deep and fundamental part of who we all are.

The show’s co-creators explore boundaries that are tangible and intangible – the unseen, energetic, boundaries that can empower us or deplete us in profound ways. In the words of Brené Brown: “Daring to set boundaries is about having the courage to love ourselves, even when we risk disappointing others.”

The Show’s Call to Action is for listeners to write down how:  The need for Boundaries is manifesting in their own lives. These boundaries can be seen or unseen.

  1. The cost of not having boundaries in place in our personal and/or professional lives.
  2. The effect of the need (or lack) of boundaries in terms of our relationship to those we love. And as was the case in the first scenario this will include boundaries seen and unseen.

The Importance of Setting Your Boundaries

Advertisements

Have you ever been in a situation where someone is making you uncomfortable? Maybe they are in your personal space, being argumentative, or even flitting with you. Of course, we all have! The important question is, what did you do about it? We have all heard about the importance of setting boundaries. What often gets missed is the importance of enforcing your boundaries. Depending on the situation and the relationship you have with the person pushing your boundary, your response can vary significantly. In this episode, Shannon and Kelly are going to discuss the importance of boundaries, all the different types of boundaries, and how to practice enforcing them, depending on who you are dealing with.

Our guest this week, Kelly Sayer, believes all women can learn how to be more situationally aware to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.
